LEDs have a primary lens affixed to the LED package to enhance light extraction out of the package. These primary lenses typically produce a wide-angle output pattern, which may not be optimal for the application. A total internal reflection (TIR) secondary lens can be mounted on the LED package and used to shape the beam pattern.
