Two Boards. One Brilliant Solution.

The Arrow Embedded Simplicity Kit, featuring a Control Board, and a remote Embedded Target Board, utilizes the latest embedded technologies. This exciting new reference design and demonstration platform showcases a modular design for wireless control of solid-state lighting technology and can be easily adapted to a variety of market segments, including medical and industrial.

The Control Board

Control Board DiagramThe 'brain' of the system, processes input from touch sensors and an ambient light sensor. Commands are sent to the Remote Embedded Target Board via an IEEE 802.15.4® wireless connection. It manages the control and calculation of the high bright LED levels and changes due to user input, temperature measurements and ambient light readings. The board can be either battery operated or powered from an external DC power supply.

Freescale MC9S08QE128

  • 8-bit microcontroller with 128 KB of embedded Flash and 8 KB SRAM
  • Acts as the interface between user input, via capacitive touch sensors on the board and the wireless RF module
  • Updates the local status LEDs according to the current mode of operation
  • Samples analog output from the ambient light sensor

Digi International XBee® RF Module

  • Low-cost/low-power, drop-in module provides wireless communication between the control board and the remote embedded target board
  • Uses IEEE 802.15.4 networking protocol for fast point-to-multipoint or peer-to-peer networking

Freescale Proximity Sensor Software for Capacitive Touch Control

  • Provides a simple, low-cost user interface
  • Detects the state of capacitive touch pads
  • Cost efficient alternative to mechanical push buttons or rotary switches

  • Opto hybrid with logarithmic current output

The Remote Embedded Target Board

HB-LED Board DiagramThis second board receives commands from the Control Board via an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless connection and adjusts the high bright LEDs. The Remote Embedded Target Board also takes a local temperature measurement and makes the result available to the Control Board. The board is powered from an external DC power supply.

  • Measures the temperature of the operating environment near the HB-LED modules
  • Precision analog output CMOS integrated circuit temperature sensor that operates at supply voltage as low as 1.5V
  • Very accurate over wide temperature range of −50°C to +150°
